Silva drops Okami to the mat in the 2nd round with a straight right, Okami gets up and lands a good left but it doesn’t faze Silva.

During her performance she took time to tell her hyped up Brazilian fans about her battle with drugs and how God has helped be drug free for the last 7 years. Chaka ran through a string of hits, “I Feel For You”, “Tell Me Something Good”, “Everlasting Love”, “I’m Every Woman” and more hits, also showcasing her phenomenal band and background singers.

Chaka Khan in Rio de Janeiro

Prince cancels his August 27th concert in Rio de Janeiro with an email to the promoters of the Back 2 Black festival stating that he can’t be there on that date.

No other explanation was given and promoters of the festival have offered no other insight as to why His Purple Badness cancelled.

Prince has not performed in Brazil since the first Rock in Rio festival 20 years ago. The cancellation leaves a bitter taste in many Prince fans mouths who have been waiting to see him perform. Many fans have paid for flights and booked hotels in Rio just for the event.

At least Chaka Kahn and Macy Gray are still scheduled to perform, but for those Prince fans, this is of little consequence.

Refunds for those with tickets to the Prince night of the festival will begin this Thursday.

All three Superstars will perform at the Back 2 Black Festival in Rio de Janeiro – next week August 26, 27,28 and 30th.

With little advertising, this year’s Back 2 Black sneaked up on us, with all the attention going to the Rock in Rio festival next month.

Prince

Prince, one of the most reinvented artists in music with a career spanning more than 30 years and known to rock a concert or two returns to Brazil after a long hiatus.

Chaka Khan

Chaka Kahn probably one of the most underrated singers in the music business (She’s my all time favorite) who’s hit’s include “I’m Every Woman, “Through the Fire” and the Prince penned “I Feel For You” is sure to thrill everyone with ears to hear. I’m hoping pretty sure she’ll do a duet with Prince sometime during the evening.

Macy Gray

Macy Gray, once a member of the Black Eyed Peas and coming off her album The Sellout, “Beauty in the World,” as well as a prolific movie career will bring her unique image and raspy voice to the mix as well.

Seu Jorge

One of my favorite Brazilian artist Seu Jorge will also perform. You may know his music or remember him from the classic film “City of God”

This years Back 2 Black Festival rivals Rock in Rio in Star power, and for the money it’s even a better value.

Also forums on African Brazilian culture, media and economics as well as artists from the African diaspora around the world performing.

Red Bull Roda de Bola is an event held on Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro. Roda de Bola called “Altinha” {al -cheen-ya} is a game usually dominated by men, but this competition was for women only. Brazilian girls from all over came to compete. Basically it’s played in a circle with a soccer ball with any body part except the hands and arms used to keep the ball in play.

Rio de Janeiro restaurant

The 4th annual Rio Restaurant Week continues until May 29. With 58 restaurants participating with the objective for clients new and old to have the opportunity to discover the epicurean creations of some of the best restaurants in the city, with a promotional price.

All plates offered during the promotional week will cost between R$29.90 and R39.90 reais, including appetizer, main dish and dessert. Each participating restaurant will offer two options for diners to choose from. Drinks, hors d’oeuvres and service are not included in the promotional price.

Moreover, Rio Restaurant Week has a social agenda this year. Each restaurants ask that clients donate R$1.00 to the victims of the recent flooding in the Serrana region of Rio. More specifics at www.aldeiario.org.br
