Christ Statue Graffiti-Photo

Christ the Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro’s iconic symbol and one of the Seven Wonders of the World was vandalized with graffiti. The statue which sits atop Corcovado mountain and overlooks all of Rio de Janeiro has been under renovation and is covered with scaffolding which the vandals used to climb the 130 foot statue and write graffiti on the head and face of the Christ statue. The graffiti translates to “When the cat’s away, the rats will play“. Rio de Janeiro’s mayor, Eduardo Paes, promises the “criminals will pay for what they’ve done. They will go to jail. Rio de Janeiro and Brazil do not deserve this”.

The route to Christ the Redeemer or Cristo Redentor atop Corcovado mountain has been closed due to the recent heavy rain and mudslides and renovation on the statue is scheduled to continue for the next few months.

The company renovating the statue has already removed the graffiti.

It’s about time someone said something about unsolved crimes, like altar boy harems investigations long negated by the pope & church/school bus crashes/burnings & church burnings! What’s it take for the divine to bother about evil? The 1st rescue worker to die at 9/11 was the firehouse parson taken to St. Paul’s altar across the street so, apparently by the hands of god, he could & did die on it. Answer to this Son-of-Man who says he’s the Son of NO man! These guys are heroes! Well, ok, but… they’re NOT wrong!

Stuff like this really ticks me off! Believe in who and waht you want, but it doesn’t give people the right to damage a symbol that gives people alittle hope in life. I hope this is just a prank by kids, who deserve their asses kicked along with jail time. But if this is an adult’s attempt to send some type of message, then maybe jil time and an ass whipping would do them some good too. And where is security for this landmark? I’ve been to the statue and enjoyed evry minute of it; it really bothers me that this has happen. “Live your life without disrupting the lives of others”.
