Harlem Globetrotters come to Rio de Janeiro

The world famous Harlem Globetrotters bring their magic to Rio de Janeiro’s Maracanazinho Arena next to the the Maracana football stadium April 24 and 25th as they travel to Brazil during their South American 2010 tour.

The Globetrotters were actually created in Chicago, Illinois in 1926 by Abe Sperstein, and adopted the name Harlem because of it connections the the African-American community at the time. “Sweet Georgia Brown”, whistled by Brother Bones has been their long standing theme song.

Notable Harlem Globetrotters players include:

  • Wilt Chamberlain
  • Meadowlark Lemon
  • Reece “Goose” Tatum
  • Fred “Curly” Neal

Bill Cosby and Magic Johnson have been signed to $1 a year lifetime contracts with the Globetrotters.
